PHOSPHATE SUPPLIES
RATIONING TO FARMERS CONTROL PLAN ANNOUNCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 12. The Phosphatic Fertiliser Control Notice, 1941. which was brought down with the Gazette to-night, provides for the rationing of phosphatic fertiliser to farmers for top-dressing purposes, /having regard to the supply that will be available for all purposes for the next 12 months commencing on July 1. It is proposed to set aside 140.000 tons of superphosphate for application to crops and new grass. For the purpose of the rationing scheme, returns are to be obtained from farmers by the vendors of fertilisers, giving particulars of the quantity of fertilisers used for all purposes during the last two years ended May 30, and the quantity used during that period for top-dressing. A summary of the statements of returns received by the vendors from farmers is to be delivered to the Primary Industries Controller, Mr A. H. Cockayne, and from the statements received the ratio existing in the last two years between the total amount of fertiliser used for all purposes and the amount used for top-dressing will be determined by the controller. On the basis so determined a proportionate reduction as directed by the controller must be made in all orders for fertiliser required for top-dressing, so that the total amount delivered by the vendors for that purpose will not be in excess of 200,000 tons. Supplies of phosphatic fertiliser for application to crops may be obtained by farmers as and when required at the rates per acre set out in the notice, according to the particular kind of crons mentioned in the notice.
