UNEXPECTED INCREASE GOVERNMENT’S POLICY AWAITED (PA..) WELLINGTON, June 11. “We have been getting more meat away from New Zealand in the last month or six weeks than we had expected earlier in the season,” said the Minister of Marketing, Mr J. G. Barclay, fti an interview to-day. He added that every effort was being made to can and freeze meat in New Zealand. “No good meat is being destroyed in New Zealand at present, nor has any been destroyed,” Mr Barclay said. He explained that there were rejects as usual, but so far it had not been necessary to put any good meat down tne chute. . In reply to questions concerning the Government’s future meat policy, the Minister said he was not yet in a position to make an announcement. The Government would not, however, allow anv industry to be sunk. It had got behind the meat industry this year when the industry was facing a crisis. “The meat and dairy seasons are drawing to a close and we will probably have something to say in detail when we get the final figures for the season,” Mr Barclay concluded.
