TRANSPORT DRIVERS
EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS SCHEME Since transport is a vital factor in war and in, times of, emergency, it is essential that a well-trained unit should be instantly available, and in order to provide for this the transport section of the Emergency Precautions Scheme is being reorganised and enlarged" to a complement of 358. The Transport Controller (Mr J. Phillips) ‘has-returned from a course of .instruction at Burnham with all the necessary knowledge and data for the efficient training of the new unit on military lines. Men not eligible for overseas military service are required as drivers. Only those with lorry licences and car owners or drivers of long experience will be accepted. A suitable room has been made available by the authorities, and a series of lectures will be given on such subjects as car maintenance, antLgas measures, map. reading and general transport work. A The actual transport training will cover lorry driving, ceremonial transport drill, and active service convoy work. Arrangements have been made for the unit to have a distinctive but serviceable Uniform, and this will be supplied to members, at a very reasonable cost. •"**-
A call for recruits will be made by advertisement in the press as soon as the final details have been settled, and it is expected to start training before the end of the month.
