NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
DUNEDIN BRANCH The roll call at the meeting of the Dunedin branch of the National Conn 1 cil of Women, held on Wednesday. June 4, was answered by 31 delegates. The president. Miss Lovell-Smith, welcomed to the meeting Miss Moran, Miss Struthers and Mrs Cook, newlyappointed representatives from the Catholic Women’s Needlework Guild, the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Townswomen’s Guild respectively. Miss Sullivan, branch secretary, read extracts from a pamphlet, “ Statements of Facts,” forwarded by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and pointed out that if the National Council wished to make suggestions on the subject of the liquor laws, it must be givgn specific instances to use as evidence. It was urged that this subject -should be a definite part of the conference programme,
Suggestions prepared by the branch secretary for the consideration of headquarters, when drawing up the conference programme, were placed before the meeting and approved. Remits for conference were discussed and voted upon. Miss Green was reappointed representative from the council to the Vocational Guidance Association.
Miss Glover, representative of the Trained Nurses’ Association, gave a summary of the proceedings of the obstetrical conference recently held in Wellington. A pressing need was shown to exist for the provision of ■better training facilities for medical students. Miss Lovell-Smith extended the thanks of the members to Miss Glover for her informative report.
