RADIO BROADCASTING
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—l was surprised to read in this morning's Daily Times the unwarranted attack by " Disgusted " on the announcer of the " Newsreels." It may be " sonorous and ponderous," but it is perfectly clear, and does not tax the powers of the listener. I am not indifferent to good English, but I seem to have quite failed to notice what your correspondent so adversely criticises, and hope that the pleasure of listening to this announcer will not be disturbed.—l am, etc., Dunedin, June 10. Moderation.
TO THE EDITOR Sir,— l wish to commend the numerous writers on their condemnatory statements in connection with the " drivelling " whicn is constantly to be heard over station 4ZB The " scavenger hunt," which, in the past, has been conducted, as if it were a badly constructed burlesque, went to the other extreme on Saturday night. It passed from the 1 .buffoonery stage: to a ludicrous exaggeration, and it proved to hundreds of listeners what small-minds and limited vision some of those responsible for it possess. Anyone could detect the malice in the over-ripe "sincerity of the announcer's clap-trap on Saturday night. I wonder was his conscience crystal clear in connection with Norman Longs record chosen "at. random"! It is not at all surprising that numbers of children have been forbidden to listen in to the V Children's Hour." It has long since ceased to be that. Wake up, Dunedin! Surely we must not tolerate this insufferable "drivel" indefinitely. Let *us be progressive.—l an}, etc.. Beau Ideal. Dunedin, June 10.
