OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS
MONTHLY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the association was held yesterday afternoon, Messrs .1. W. Patton (president), W. J. Strong, R T.. Stewart, J, Dey,,A. F. Cheyne, F.'A. CheyneV A. E. Selby. r F. W. Knight, J. F. Fraser, D J. Calder, C. C. Robertson, C. Morris and F. H. Campbell being present. The following gifts were received during the month:—From Miss F. G. Stanwood, of New York—photographs of her late grandparents, Mr and Mrs W. Kennedy, of Dunedln (1869); from Miss J. Anderson, of Dunedin—framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs J. C. Anderson (father. 1861); from Mr G. A. Harlow, of Dunedin—copy of first lessons In Maori conversation; from Mr C. J. Wood, of Balclutha—medal of ihe Dunedin Exhibition, 1865, and collection of coins; from Mr and Mrs Hayward, of Dunedin—cabin clock of the Surat, which was wrecked near the Catlins river, December 31, 1873; from Mrs C. Baslre—framed engravings of the Tararau and the Egmont, Panama mail steamers In the 1860's.
The following deaths were recoi ded during the month:—Mrs Omond, of Port Chalmers (about 1858), aged 98; Alex. Ford, of Pine Hill (Robert Henderson (1858). aged 84; William Reid, of Littlebourne road, aged 87; Mrs W. Maxwell, of Waikouaiti (1860*s); Duncan McColl, of Timaru, late of Tapanui (1860's), aged 89; Mrs Julia Crisp, of Tapanui (William Davie. 1868)? aged 85. Three life members were enrolled during the month—Miss M. Ross and Mrs J. A. D. Iverach, of Dunedin, father, Sir John Ross (Velore, 1861), and Dr N. E. H. Fulton, of Ashburton, grandfather (Ajax 1849). Descendants who were enrolled during the month were:—Mrs G. B. Grant-Ussher, of Long Bush (great grandparents, Philip Laing, 1848); Miss R. I. Lawson, of Duhedln (great grandfather. George Canning, 1857); Dr W. Newlands. of Dunedin (parents, Helenslee. 1866); Mr W. H. Haigh of North Taieri (father. 1860); Mr A. Ford, of Pleasant Point, Canterbury (father. Robert Henderson, 1858); Miss J. Anderson, of Dunedin (father. 1861); Mr J. H. White, of Tapanui (grandparents, Ajax, 1849); Mr J. Mulr, of Galloway (grandfather. Cornwall, 1851): Mr E. J Iverson, of Alexandra (father. 1862); Mr D. Neil, of Tahakopa (parents. Resolute, 1864); Mr J. R. Mitchell, of St Kilda (father, Andrew Jackson, 1863); Mr H Smith, WaikaKa Valley, Gore (mother, early 1869'5); Mr J. Johnston, of Edendale (grandparents. Royal Albert, 1853); Mr J. S. Sinclair, of Waimatu Maheno (father. Maori 1857).
