He hit every fence' in the Great Northern Hurdle Race, but in his two subsequent efforts he did not make any mistakes, and won each very comfortably. Earlier in the season it was intended to put him to steeplechasing, but he may now be kept to hurdling for this term at least. Dividend's dam, Divinette is a sister to Punchestown, and a half-sister to Charlatan, both high-class jumpers.

TROTTING NOTES By Sentinel FIXTURES June 14.—Greymouth J.C. (two events). June 21.—Ashburton County R.C (two events). June 28— Oamam J.C (two events) July 26.—South Canterbury H.C. Prior to the meeting he was placed in two starts. Last season he won twice and was placed four times in six starts, so that his form up to date, if not on a high grade, has the merit of consistency. Gunman was produced by Flying Cloud, a mare by Wrack—Pearl Child, who Is also the dam of Childe Pointer, Pearl Pointer. Sea Pearl, Nantwich. First Wrack. Giro, and Vanity Fair.

Opportunities.—The slow class brigade are now left with very few opportunities during the remaining part of the season. Ashburton. Oamaru and the South Canterbury Hunt meeting complete the calendar. Red Shadow.—Not much has been heard of Red Shadow as a sire. At the Nelson meeting he was represented by Shadow Maid and Shadow Son. first and second in the President's Handicap Shadow Maid.—When she won at Nelson. Shadow Maid scored her first success this season. Prior to the Nelson meeting she had been placed 10 times in 13 starts. When racing as a two-year-old last season, Shadow Maid won a division of the Timaru Nursery Stakes in 2min 14 2-ssec. She scored by six lengths, and probably the margin could be taken as a hint that she could go much faster. At the time Shadow Maid had a 2min lOsec reputation. RICCARTON NOTES END OF AGGRAVATE (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, June 10. The career of Aggravate came to an end this morning. He was having a sixfurlong gallop with Kilrobe, and after going about three furlongs he dropped back quickly and was pulled up. Examination showed that he had broken' his near foreleg, below the fetlock, and he was destroyed. Aggravate, an aged gelding by Shambles from Bran Pie, did his early racing for Mr M. O'Brien, for whom he had some success, but some time ago he was sold to Mr R. Curragh, of Westport, being trained at Riccarton by H. Nurse, and he won three races this, season, besides being placed several times. He had been galloping well lately, and he was booked for a trip to the West Coast this week to race at Greymouth . on Saturday. A few other candidates for Greymouth did strong work, but the No. 6 track was heavy, and, there were no serious trials.

Recollection (A. Leach) was schooled once round the steeplechase fences. He slipped going into the second fence of the double, but got over safely, this being the only blemish in a very attractive display. He should provide interest in the steeplechase at Ashburton. Night Dress (A. Leach) went at a sound pace over four hurdles, which he lumped quite satisfactorily. Flame Queen (M. Hollands) was given a turn over the pony hurdles. It is intended to try her in hurdle races later on. E. C. Parker has added Pink Bird tc his team, and will train him for his South Canterbury breeder, Mr J." Earl. Pink Bird, a three-year-old gelding by Pink Coat from Saxette, had half a dozen races last season, without special form, though he showed some speed. ■'• Roman Son is doing good work, ano he should be at his best among the staying hacks at Ashburton next week. Several Riccarton jockeys have arranged to make a trip to Greymouth for Saturday's meeting. The Riccarton horses who raced at Auckland are due to arrive home tomorrow, their departure being -delayed. E. J; Jennings, who has arranged to start as a trainer, has under his care four horses from the stud of Mr L, J Fechney, near Ashburton. They include a two-year-old gelding by Greek Shepherd from Woodfire, by Autumnus from Fairhaven; two-year-old filly by Leader from Fleeting Glance, by Day Comet from Wild Hind. They are being broken in at present. A five-year-old gelding by Leader from a Masterpiece mare will be prepared for a jumping career It will take some months, however, to gel these three into racing shape. Oriental King, an eight-year-old gelding by Leader from Brown Lady, by Sutala from Avarice, is very backward, and he will be hacked for a few months while he builds up after which he may be jumped.
