MOTOR IMPORTS
TRUCK AND BUS CHASSIS LICENCE TERM EXTENDED Recognition of the long delays incurred in obtaining delivery of overseas goods is expressed in a concession by the Customs Department to importers of completely knocked down motorchassis. They have been informed that fifth period licences for the importation of chassis for trucks and buses will be made available up to June 30, 1942. This extension of the importing term six months beyond the fifth period is regarded as significant of a relaxation of a general policy which would not permit fourth period licences to extend beyond December 31 last. At the same time it is pointed out that the concession is warranted in fairness because six months of the fifth period has now elapsed. Army needs and requisitions of heavy trucks are ascribed as the chief reason for an extention of the allocation recently for the fifth period to 100 per cent, of the value of 1938 imports except in the case of light vans.
