LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Morningtoti Branch.—Mrs Burton presided The thought for the month, given by Mrs Barkman, was "God is cur refuge and strength, a very present help in trpuble. Therefore, will not we fear though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea." The speaker, Miss Vial, of the Vocational Guidance Department, gave an interesting talk on the work of the department. Miss Vial said that this wcrlc had been started nearly 11 years ago and while there was still much to be accomplished, good work had been done for the youth of the city. The young people of to-day would have great problems to face in a few years time and it was a great mistake and a very shcrt-sighted policy for parents to allow their children fo leave school at too early an age, as they were not at that time fit for work either physically or emotionally. Miss Vial also said that she had a very high opinion of the modern girl, who was more honest and sincere than she got credit for being Port Chalmers Branch.—Mrs Sutherland presided. After the devotional period Captain Wilscn gave an interesting talk on the work of the Salvation Army, telling the story from the commencement in London in 1865 to the present day. The landing at Port Chalmers in 1883, the story of the earlv meetings and the growth cf the work in New Zealand were vividly described. Captain Wilson told, too. of the Army's war work in New Zealand and overseas.
