TRANSPORT SERVICES
ro THE EDITOR
Sir, —Yesterday morning hill residents were perturbed to And that no I transport whatever was available on the Rattray street route to Roslyn. The tramway authorities advised that because buses had been able to continue the service on Sunday evening without chains they had expected the buses to carry on the service yesterday morning. It should have been obvious that this would be futile, as a few inquiries would have established the fact that ; the roads were frozen and it snowed again .heavily about 7.30. Buses should never nave been sent out without chains. The trams should have been put on first thing in the morning Again, last night, the service was hopelessly disorganised through the corporation’s persistence with buses. Why were the trams-not kept running for (he evening when it was obvious that another hesvy fall of snow was likely? The trams could have kept the service running with no difficulty. This morning we were amazed to find that not only were the buses running, but that seme trams were also in service. The buses may be slightly more comfortable. when they are not overcrowded, as they generally are. but the trams are definitely safer, and do tun to schedule. 'The unreliability of buses, already demonstrated bv their inconsistent running. has been more forcibly brought to the notice of tra.vellers by their failure to give a service yesterday "morning and evening. It is,time the council revised its, attitude, to the Roslvn transport and put on a full-time tram service for safety, consistency in running and economy.— I am. etc.. Cable Car. May 20.
