A TEST OF SERVICE
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—As one who has the greatest esteem for the sterling worth of our present Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen)* I read with interest of his opponent's attendances at council meetings ,■ during the past three years. That Dr McMillan attended only 43 out of 111 council meetings during three years (including 11 our of 35 in the last 12 months) is surely adequate proof that his time is so fully occupied that he cannot give his council duties complete attention, let alone the added responsibilities which would devolve on him if he were elected to the mayoral office. What Mr Allen omitted to mention or, if he did mention it, your reporter did not include it in his report, was that he had, as I have ascertained, been present at 109 out of 111 meetings of the council. Surely this is adequate proof of the keen interest Mr Allen has in the city affairs and of; the fact that he has not spared either' time or energy in. his work for the welfare of the city.— l am, etc., Deeds, Not Words. Dunedin, May 13.
