At,a meeting.of the Council of the Otago Art Society, the president (Mr E. Miller) made appropriate reference to the loss which the society had suffered in the recent death of Mr " Bob " Reid, of Mount Stuart. Mr Reid's association with the Otago. Society as an exhibitor dated back many years. As an artist, he worked in a tradition which finds few exponents, perhaps, in the present generation, but Jiis pictures were marked by individuality and refinement and commanded and repaid attention.

Prior to the closing of the Training College for the vacation, members of the staff entertained Mr and Mrs A. P. Roydhouse at a social function. Mr Roydhouse, who has been in charge of physical training at the college for several years, will, because of an alteration in the organisation, spend more time with the schools in future. At the function at the college he was presented with a wristlet watch, and a gift of chinaware was made to Mrs Roydhouse. At the students' sports ball, the president of the Students' Association presented Mr Roydhouse with a travelling companion set.

Passengers by the north-bound plane yesterday were: Mrs J. Rose, Mr A. I. Johns, Dr Pearson, Dr C. Newton, Mr J Howley, and Mr G. Perl for Christchurch, Mr W. South, Mrs N. S. Cock,, and Mr G. Lancaster for Wellington, and Mr H. D. Kerr for Auckland. Passengers by the south-bound plane were: Miss L. Murphy from Palmerston North, Miss R. Chapman from Wellington, and Mrs C. E. Baker, Mrs B. Thomson, Miss H. Kinross, Mrs E. Torpy, and Mr L., R. Simpson from Christchurch.
