LATE NEWS

"HITLER A MANIAC" COLONEL KNOX'S DECLARATION WASHINGTON, (Rec. 2 a.m.) May 13. The Secretary of the Navy (Colonel Knox), said: "The convoy controversy is futile, because it is possible that convoys won't be sufficient, and we might be obliged to develop new defences to ensure the arrival of materials in Britain. Hitler is a maniac whom we must oppose. I reject isolation or surrender. We cannot build a Chinese wall around ourselves. I have just visited the isolationist Midwest and found the sentiment sharply swinging to aid for Britain." MANNHEIM AGAIN BOMBED R.A.F. RAIDS ON GERMANY (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, May 13. The great industrial centre of Mannheim, which has been raided on numerous occasions in recent months, again suffered a heayy battering. German activity over Britain last night was light and scattered, and casualties were few. Not a bomb was dropped on London. One enemy raider was shot down last night, making a total of 134 for the first 12 nights of this month. NAZI RUTHLESSNESS DESTRUCTION OF CHURCHES (Rec. 2 a.m.) LONDON, May 13.
