MAORI HILL AND OLD BOYS DRAW A FINELY CONTESTED GAME The Fletcher Cup Competition games were continued on Saturday under good conditions. At Logan Park, Maori Hill and Old Boys provided spectators with a splendid game, in which Maori Hill fully deserved its last-minute draw. Technical, by drawing with the more fancied Northern team at the Oval, secured its first cup point of the season. The surprise result of the round was RoslynWakari's defeat at Seacliff, the home side s curing a three-goal margin. At Tonga Park Caversham went under to Mosgiel. The games resulted:— Maori Hill 3, Old Boys 3. * Northern 2, Technical 2. Seacliff 6, Roslyn-Wakari 3. Mosgiel 5, Caversham 1. The match between Maori Hill and Old Boys was marked by fine open field play, which kept the spectators fully interested throughout. Against the run of the play in the first half. Old Boys secured a twogoal lead. Groves accounting for both with fine shots. The Hill side displayed good attacking movements, but poor shooting lost chances. An early goal in the second spell also from Groves, following a clever movement down the centre, looked promising for Old Boys. Hill, however, continued to press repeatedly, bv sounder teamwork, and after Brownlee headed in from a well-placed centre by Little, Keach showed dash from another centre from the same quarter, to score Hill's second goal. In the final stages Hill dominated the play, and Keach scored the goal which brought the scores level. The two centre-halves, Morris (Hill) and Race (Old Boys) played outstanding games. Northern, which was without the services of Wallace, McFarlane, and King, was fortunate to hold Technical to a draw, as in the last 20 minutes the latter was forcing the play. Solid work, however, by Marshall in goal, and Gordon at half, kept Technical out. Gordon scored the opening goal for Northern, Technical following up with one from Ramsay. Singleton next placed Northern In the lead, but Witchall secured another for Technical. Lloyd, at right full-back for Technical, played well on defence. Against the stronger opposition ot Mosgiel, Caversham put up a solid defence, but the country team had no difficulty in securing a strong lead at the finish. The scorers for Mosgiel were Skinner (3). Davidson and Thorpe, Caversham's goal coming from O'Neill. Despite the difference of three goals, the game between Roslyn-Wakari ana Seacliff was for the most part evenly contested, the winners. Seacliff, scoring three goals in the latter stages of the game. Ives (2), Ruddiman (2) and Ives netted for the home side, the sixth being scored when a Roslyn defender placed the ball through his own goal. Martin. Lang and Welham scored for the losers.
