"MATTER OF WEEKS"

AMERICAN INTERVENTION (Rec. midnight) ROME, May 10. The Italian press is preparing the public for United States intervention in the war. The Messaggero says that intervention is a matter of weeks or days. The Popolo di Roma says that while Mr Roosevelt prepares for intervention, Britain plans to cede to the United States military bases in South Africa. The Cairo correspondent of the Associated Press states that, asked whether he thought the United States would best aid Britain by entering the war, Captain Roosevelt replied: " Except for sending troops, we are already in the war."
