“MACBETH”
The Shakespeare Club has chosen “ Macbeth ” for a public reading to be given in the Concert Chamber on Tuesday next This play is one of the most powerful of the poet’s works, being written at the height of his powers. Here men and women are depicted in life-like manner, noble qualities being revealed even in those whose aims are base. This is typical of the character. Macbeth, the brave soldier, whose selfishness is evident throughout the play, and whose readiness to listen to temptation finally brings about his ruin. This part has been entrusted to Mr J. W. Hayward, while Mrs H Speight will interpret Lady Macbeth a woman of Iron will and strong ambition. * , _ Others in the cast are Messrs J. CumPerbeach, A. F. Lanyon, N. McKinlay. H. W Hunter, G. Hutchison. R. Herbert, C. Banks, A. G. Ellis, Misses V. Jefferson. G. Langmore A Hoseit. M. Eagar, M McKechie. M. McLay, Mrs E. J. Murray The soloist will be Mr Russell Laurenson.
