DUEL ACROSS THE CHANNEL LONG-RANGE GUNS (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Apl. 29. British and German long-range guns to-day staged a duel across the Channel. The Germans opened (Ire on Dover in clear visibility, and the British batteries replied with single shots at first, increasing to rapid four and six-gun salvoes. The exchanges were the heaviest that have so far taken place. ANOTHER RAID ON BREST DOCKS HEAVILY BOMBED (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, Apl. 29. R.A.F. bombers last night carried out another heavy attack on the docks at Brest, where the cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau are still sheltering. VESSELS FOR BRITAIN MORE FROM AMERICA WASHINGTON, (Rec. 2 a.m.)' Apl. 29. The unofficial magazine of the United States coastguards has said that a further transfer of armed American vessels to Britain could be expected. It said that 40 small cutters which were at present being built in the Wheeler Shipyard in New York for coastguard work may be sent to Britain.
