LIFE SAVING

ST. KILDA CLUB’S GALA AN INTERESTING DISPLAY In perfect conditions the St. Kilda Life Saving Club held a successful gala yesterday on the St. Kilda beach. Included on the programme were a series of open and club life-saving events, among the latter being the competition for the Barsdell Cup. An added attraction was the appearance of a women’s team from Balclutha, and during the afternoon the St. Kilda Club’s midget team, under the direction of Mr G. Withnell, gave a very creditable display. The team was comprised of A. S. Jones, G. Brent, A. Veilstra and E. Osborne. For the children who were on the beach a programme of races and a treasure hunt were provided. The following are the results of the life saving events:— March Past.-— St. Clair 1, Balclutha 2, St. Kilda 3, Balclutha Women 4. Six-Man Alarm.— St. Clair 11, St Clair II 2.
