COOL STORAGE
EXPANSION AT MAKAREWA PROVISION FOR 180,000 CARCASSES (Special to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 5. Satisfactory progresses being made with the erection of extra storage accommodation at the Makarewa freezing works. A new chamber, which will be used in the event of shipping difficulties, is being constructed to accommodate about 180,000 carcasses, and it is hoped to have the building erected in three months’ time. There is now a full team of carpenters engaged at the works, and no more will be required until the initial stages of the work have been completed. Because of a shortage of men In Invercargill the services of six Dunedin carpenters were secured. The Dunedin tradesmen bfcgan work as goon as the building of accommodation huts was completed. Local workmen are being transported to and from the works.
