AMERICAN DIPLOMATS
OFFICIAL IN AUSTRALIA TRANSFERRED TO CHINA (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Feb. 5. The United States Minister in Australia, Mr Clarence Gauss, is being transferred to China because of his special knowledge of that country and its customs. His post in Australia is to be filled by Mr Nelson Johnson, who at present is United States Minister in China. The change-over has been , approved by the Australian Government. A message from Shungking states that the Chinese Government announced officially that it approved of Mr Gauss replacing Mr Johnson. The American Embassy confirmed that Mr Gauss is replacing Mr Johnson, but declined to comment pending the Washington announcement.
