There has been a good response in Auckland in connection with the Government’s scheme to train men for the engineering industry and production of armaments. About 200 applications have been received by the State Placement Service. A footwear class is also to be established, and applications will be invited shortly. Local councils have been set up under a national body to administer the training scheme. The council will select the men for training, and determine when they are suitable for recommendation for employment
