WAR EFFORT GIFTS
JAMAICA'S SPECIAL DONATION (British Official, Wireless) RUGBY, Dec. 26. (Received-Dec. 27, at 7.30 p.m.) The latest gifts towards the war effort from various parts of the colonial empire include £5250 from Jamaica as a special Christmas donation to the Mobile Canteen Fund.' The Governor of North Rhodesia received £2OOO from Mr Peter Hay, a farmer, of Pemb, as a loan without interest-for the duration of the war and three months after. Two further sums have been received from the British Red Cross Committee and £lls from the Seychelles local war charities fund.
Lord Beaverbrook acknowledged a gift of £7665 towards the purchase of aircraft from the Robert Peel Spitfire Fund, subscribed for by the regulars and auxiliaries of 160 police forces in England, Scotland and Wales towards a Spitfire to be called the Robert PeeL ,
