NOEL COWARD
VISIT TO DUNEDIN
Great interest is being occasioned by the visit to Dunedin next Thursday of Mr Noel Coward, the famous dramatist, for his first concert appearance in New Zealand. He comes here after highly successful tours of America and Australia. At his first public appearance in Sydney, he shook hands with 794 women and 21 men. It is said that one has to see Noel Coward to appreciate the real genius of the man. He has a personality all his own. He writes plays, sketches, cavalcades, and autobiography. He composes. He sings—although he admits it is really croaking that won't "go over" unless it has his face behind it. He produces. He acts. He dances. He is a first-class entertainer. He has come to New Zealand at the invitation of the Government "to do what he can for the war effort." At his four New Zealand concerts Mr Coward will be supported by a special orchestra and such leading artists as Mr Anderson Tyrer (pianist), Mr Heddle Nash (tenor), and Miss Mary Pratt (contralto). Applications for reserved seats have poured in steadily from all parts of the province since the preferential booking period opened at Begg's. It will continue until New Year's Eve.
