She and her colleagues did the last mile in 2min 16sec, and the concluding four furlongs in lmin 4sec. Lady Carol has developed into a handsome mare, and she should make a name for herself later on. One To Remember Swagger Jack gave a solid performance to beat all but Indian Clipper in the Melrose Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday. This is the second time this season he has been runner-up; and he promises to make sufficient progress to win more than one race before the season ends. He was bred at Riversdale by Mr S. Lynch. ,and was five years old when he was registered on June 6. 1939. He began racing in R. Townley's colours but after two unsuccessful efforts he was transferred to O. E. Consistent Bronze Queen, a daughter of Rey de Oro and the Logan Pointer mare Logan Queen, is one of the most consistent pacers in the Auckland province, and her win in the R. T. Reid Memorial Handicap, which was well deserved, was very popular. Last season she registered one win and six placings, and it is a coincidence that her success was also at Claudelands, the race being the Wanganui Centennial Handicap, of two miles.
