WASTE MATERIALS

COLLECTION OF SCRAP METAL The Otago Provincial Council for the Reclamation of Waste Materials has now completed the necessary arrangements for the collection of non-ferrous metals in the City of Dunedin and Borough of St. Kilda to-morrow. In addition, similar collections will be carried out in the Green Island area and the Borough of Balclutha. The city and St. Kilda have been cut up into 16 collection areas, each under the control of a supervisor. Some 1400 school boys, both primary and secondary, will assist, and arrangements have been made to call at every house in the area. By arrangement with the Automobile Association (Otago) over 100 cars and trucks will assist the collectors in this work. No payment is to be made for the metals collected, and the whole proceeds from the sale will be devoted to the local Patriotic Fund. In the meantime only non-ferrous metals will be collected—aluminium, brass, bronze, gunmetal, copper, copper wire, collapsible tubs, foil, lead and zinc. Householders can assist by having their collection of metals ready for the boys when they call after 9 a.m. to-morrow.

The National Council is also making arrangements for the disposal of scrap cast iron and paper of all kinds and rags, but these materials will not be collected on this occasion. No bottles are required.
