December 28.—Westland R.C Night Pal If Night Pal raced up to his gallop on Tuesday last he would get amongst the money at Rlccarton Sovereign Lady Although she made a poor showing at the Banks Peninsula meeting, Sovereign Lady may do better at Riccarton. Dictate Dictate appears to have been foaled under an Unlucky star, or otherwise he would be entitled to a chance in the New Zealand Cup. The Going Reports from Riccarton state that the grass tracks are on the hard side. The course proper has a water service which can be brought into operation if deemed necessary. Density The trouble with Density seems to be that she goes too fast to last either on the track or in a race. She may be found hard to beat in the Stewards' Handicap. Doubtful Starter Passaform did not suffer any ill-effects from his race on hard ground at Motukarara, but unless there is some improvement in the going for Saturday he will not be started in the New Zealand Cup. Hanlon Hanlon’s form in the Teschemaker Handicap gives him an outside chance at Riccarton. He got badly away at Timaru, and, after being rushed to the front, carried on with Swordstick and then just missed a place in a close finish in 2min 5 2-osec. Possible Change Both Belle Carre and Kentucky are engaged in two races on the first day at Riccarton, and if taken out of the Spring Plate jthey would probably cause a change of plans with others in the field. Milford 'Milford was third in the New Zealand Cup of 1938, two lengths away from Arctic King and The Buzzer. Milford appeared to make his run too far from home after being slow away at the, start. He ran a couple of fair races over hurdles at the Dunedin spring meeting, and may do better at Riccarton.
