THE HUTT VALLEY
GROWING IMPORTANCE TOWN-PLANNING REPORT (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6.. A comprehensive r-eport has been issued by the Government townplanning officer, Mr J. W. Mawson, on the future development of the Hutl Valley boroughs. It was prepared in close collaboration with the local authorities, and describes the development in the industrial areas in the Valley as compatible with a good general plan. It envisages several modifications of the reading system, including several new bridges, also the development of port facilities, and emphasises that the Hutt Valley is not a rival of Wellington, which should always retain its commercial pre-emi-nence. The Valley alone, however, provides space for industrial development.
The proposals include systematic zoning of the area for light and heavy industry, as well as for residential use. and also for the .establishment of a number of new shopping areas.
