MORNING TEA RECEPTION
LADY GALWAY ENTERTAINED At a morning tea party given on Tuesday by the Mayoress (Mrs A. H. Allen) in the reception rooms of the Town Hall an opportunity was afforded Lady Galway and Dunedin members of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild to meet and discuss the work which is their mutual interest. Her Excellency wore a blue tailored wool suit with a beige georgette blouse tied in a soft, full bow at the neckline, and a becoming navy straw drat and lapel spray of lily-of-the-valley. Mrs Allen was attired in a frock of Air Force blue angora and a tailored black coat with matching sailor hat. Outlining the work of the guild, Mrs Allen spoke of the many cases of clothing and pairs of footwear already forwarded to headquarters in Wellington, these numbering 573 and 1000 respectively. On behalf of the guild, she extended best wishes to Lady Galway for a pleasant and safe journey to England, and presented her with a bouquet of roses. Her Excellency, in reply, spoke of the work being done by the guild throughout New Zealand, and thanked the Mayoress and guild members for their part in the important contribution already made by Otago towards the assistance of British families bombed out of their homes. She urged them to carry on with their efforts, as the need for assistance would become greater, particularly when the countries now occupied by the Germans had to be rehabilitated. .... On learning of the great satisfaction derived by the guild workers from turning old and soiled clothing into fresh, new and often attractive garments, her Excellency expressed, her pleasure that worn clothing had been used to such an extent, as headquarters, she said, were anxious not to use new stocks for the purpose. Mrs J. Fairbairn, speaking for the conveners of the different suburban depots (who comprised the guests), mentioned tne help given by local firms of cleaners and by laundries, and thanked Lady Galway for her encouraging words. Mrs W. B. Taverner, for the guild rrembers, also expressed thanks. After tea Ladv Galway and others present inspected the hundreds of garments piled ready for packing in the basement of the Town Hall
