SECOND ECHELON TEAM) DEFEAT OF BRITISH DIVISION ’ ; . •*; ’. * V:' v--r•* '\’ (From the Official War Correspondent in Great Britain) . . • EAST- GRINSTEAD Nov: 4. - In the main game cf the Rugby football trials on Saturday ai.-New Zealand fifteen met a British territorial division with which it'has lately been sharing the defence of a forward area. s The ground was heavy when - the second spell was played, but the match produced great football. The division was led by Captain Peter Candler, England's stand-off half, and included also three international trialists. New Zealand won, by seven points (a potted goal and a try, both by Simpson, the Taranaki full-back) to three (a penalty goal). Except that Metenga.ihd Maori half-back,, was not available because of injuries.- the New Zealand-team -was ■the selectors’ first choice-for the tim# being.
