THE OTAGO DAILY TIMES WEDNESDAY, November 6, 1940. HITLER HAS A PLAN

That “ New Order ” for Europe which Herr Hitler and his prophets hope to inaugurate appears, when subjected to examination by Mr Dingle Foot, of the Ministry of Economic' Warfare, |o, have resemblances to a very old order indeed —the order of rulers and serfs which prevailed in Europe in what we now call the Dark Ages. In this Nazi dispensation there would, howeveb, be not a loose system of princes tind barons ruling over their own peoples, but a ruling caste comprised entirely of Nazis with Control over a whole continent — ultimately, - no doubt, over the entire world. This concept—a Hitlerian interpretation of the superman of Nietzsche—is fundamental to the Nazi ideology. Long before he came to power Herr Hitler had concluded that the, haphazard and untidy system of government by the electorate must be ■ reformed, the principle of control by. a class of the elite substituted. His practical plans for the fulfilment of his ideal date back six years, to the opening of the first of a number of schools in which selected German youths are being trained for leadership. “ There will be a ; ruling caste,” Hitler explained to his onetime confidant, Hermann Rauschning, “ a historical class tempered by battle and welded from the most varied elements. There will; be- a great hierarchy of the Party. And there will be the great mass- of the anonymous/ the serving collective, the eternally disfranchised, no matter whether, they were members of the-oid bourgeoisie, the big landowning class, the, wording class, or the artisans.” So muCh for the German ! supermen and their , preordained German serfs. But Herr Hitler„, even in the days before the Reich was ready to accept this scientific development of Prussianism, had laid his plans for the rest of Europe:

Beneath them there will b 4 the class of the subject alien races; we need not hesitate to call them the modem slave class.

, This theory has ; already begun to take;form. >Tndeed, it is stated that the first graduates from the superior “ Fuhrerschule ” .which is tp train the; masters of the world for the next 1000 years, are already at Herr Hitler’s command. And there is no difficulty in recognising the browbeaten, regimented Germans of to-day as the- pattern, for the “eternally disfranchised” of the Fuhrer’s grandiose scheme. Equally within The scope of it are the Frenchmen,. Danes, Belgians and other- European peoples of whose present plight Mr Dingle Foot spoke. The evidence is already accumulating to prove that the Nazi hierarchy actually is determined to constitute the people of subject countries into a slave, class. Their food supplies and other exportable products are being requisitioned by the Reich, to feed the German people or to barter for goods which Germany requires. Their industries are being turned to production for the German market. Only a few weeks ago the Vichy Government was persuaded to grant “ minimum ” tariffs to all German goods entering France and the French colonies. The purport of all these changes is clear. Germany would only Nazi-ism could triumph in this war —the dominant nation, socially and economically, in a new . Europe, a new world, in which all other races would be working as slaves-to the greater glory of the Reich. It is in resistance to this “New Order” that the nations which value the old Prder of democracy are ranging themselves in the conflict against Nazi-ism to-day.
