WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH

COUNCIL’S .MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held at Ravensbourne last night, there being present;—The Mayor (Mr A. Smith), Crs P. H. Davis, F. H. Hudson, E. T. Monk, J. Robb, A. Macdonald. J. L. Page, F. Mitchell, J. Coutts, J. Robertson, and H. Rodger. The Mayor and Cr Robb were appointed to attend the meeting, at the Town Hail on Friday to discuss the formation of the Home Guard. . Correspondence A complaint that the water from a neighbour’s septic tank was flowing on to their properties was made by H. O. Richdale, R. David, and W. . Melton.—Tire matter was referred to the Works Committee. s The council approved of Mr D. C. Hutton's application for a building permit, and also granted him permission to install a septic tank on his property. Mr G. Denne asked that two trees outside his property should be removed, as they might Interfere with his and his neighbour’s drainage systems.—He was willing to plant and care for shrubs in place of the trees.—lt was decided that the trees should be removed.

General Cr Monk brought up the question of the council supplying water to ships at West Harbour. He stated that for three days recently no water had reached residents on the hill behind the fertiliser works, because a ship was taking in water. He suggested that vessels should be allowed the use of the borough’s supply only between midnight and 6 a.m.—Crs Rodger. Robb, Monk, and Macdonald were appointed a committee to meet the works manager of the Dominion Fertiliser Company, Ltd., to discuss the position. In the matter of refuse removal, which was left over from the previous meeting, it was decided to recommend to the next council that a house rate should be struck for the institution of such a service. It was decided that the ranger should be authorised to collect dog licence fees on a commission basis. The Finance Committee's recommendation that the clerk’s salary should be subsidised while he was in territorial camp was agreed to. The committee’s report was adopted, and accounts amounting to £322 3e 8d were passed for payment.
