HONOUR FOR NEW ZEALANDER Squadron-leader Gordon John Grin* dell, formerly of Geraldine, who has been awarded the Air Force Cross, is the younger son of Mrs and the late Mr James Grin dell, Main South road, Geraldine. He is 30 years of age, and was born at Geraldine, end commenced his education at the Klmbell School, Fairlie. and later completed ms studies at Sutton, Surrey, England. At the age of 18 he left New Zealand and toured America and England with an Englishman, and in 1032 joined the Royal Air Force. He was granted a short service commission, and later Was a squadron adjunct at Aden, in Egypt, in 1836 and was promoted to ihe rank of flight-lieutenant and Sited a permanent commission in . A period of his time was Spent as a flying instructor at several schools in England and he was posted to Sealand. near Chester, last year, with the rank of squadron-leader. In command of the advanced training squadron there. Squadron-leader Grlndell has flown at the Hendon pageant and also at the King’s review. In his earlier youth m New Zealand he was engaged as a motor mechanic, ahd at one time was a driver for the Mount Cook Tourist Company. He is married, with two children, and his home Is at Harewood, Flintshire, although h# 4 is stationed at Sealand.
