FAIR IN THAMES STREET WINDING UP QUEEN CARNIVAL A comprehensive programme has been drawn .up for the fair to be held in Thames street for the winding-up of the Air Force Queen Carnival activities in Oamaru on Saturday, November 2. The committee has appointed the following officials for the day Supervisor, Mr Bruce Meek; secretary and treasurer, Mr M. F. Woodward; announcer, Mr, B. B Blackmore; space for stalls—Messrs Bruce Meek, T. W. Jacobs and E. Coker: erection of stalls, Messrs T. W. Jacobs and E. Coker. Everyone is requested to wear fancy dress if possible, and the North Otago Cricket Association is to be asked to cancel all matches for the day. The committee has decided to request the Oamaru Borough Council to assist with extra street lighting and cartage, ano to secure an empty shop for afternoontea and supper rooms. The Garrison Municipal Band and the Highland Pipe Band -.are .to be asked to assist at the fair, Mr Meek Is to arrange with women £ organisations in town and country to take charge of produce, sweet stalls, etc., and the Friendly Bay improvement Society is to arrange side shows. Among the attractions of . the. day will be a mock court, children’s fancy dress parade, decorated dobbins, prams, cycles, best clown, wheelbarrow Derby, pram race mother of largest family at the fair, and bid English dancing at the end of the fair WOMEN’S BOWLING

AWAMOA CLUB The Awamoa Ladies’ Bowling Club opened the season on Tuesday afternoon with a large gathering of women bowlers and friends. Mrs Pile (president) gave a welccfme to the visitors, and posies were presented to Mrs Holmes (patroness) and the Mayoress (Mrs L. J. K. Familton). Replies were made by representatives of the Phoenix, Meadowbank, Maheno and Weston Ladies’ Bowling Clubs, Awamoa Croquet Club, and by Mr H. C. Jeffery (president of the men’s club). SOLDIERS’ PARCELS SUCCESSFUL CONCERT FOR FUNDS On Wednesday night, the members of the Oamaru Little Theatre Honorary Members’- Social Activities- Committee, held a successful concert to raise funds for soldiers’ parcels. There was an excelent attendance, and a thoroughly enjoyable programme was presented. Those contributing items were:-Mrs J. L.- South, Messrs B. Scally, E. W. Kerr, C. Campbell (songs); Mr J. Oliver (marimba numbers): Miss Aline Hurndell (skipping dance); Miss Betty Butterfield (recitation): one-act ; plays by Little Theatre active members, “ She’s No Lady” (St. John Ervine), and “ Courtin’ Christina” (J. J. Bell). The accompanists were Mesdames C. Campbell and Chase, Miss E. McQuade, and Mr A. W. Gibb. After supper was dispensed, the raffle was drawn, the following being the results; Dressed fowls, ticket No. 1123 (held bv K. L. Burton): box of chocolates. .1317 (W. Mclntosh): cigarettes, 1358 (R. Fallon): green felt knitting bag, 1380 (Mrs A A. Mays); large fruit cake, 1638 (Mrs S Mawhinney); cushion. 81 (Mr A. F. Wbodgate). At the conclusion of the programme, Mr J. L. South (president), thanked the Oamaru Savage Club for the use of its piano and for the performers, Mr A. F. Woodgate for the decorations, Mrs Wallace, performers, and all who had assisted in making the evening such a success. As a result a good sum was raised for the soldiers’ parcels fund.

OAMARU SAVAGE CLUB CONCERT AT HERBERT The patriotic concert party of the Oamaru Savage Club journeyed to Herbert on Wednesday night, where a bright programme was presented to a large and appreciative audience. Dr Trotter presided. and a vote of thanks to the performers was moved by Mr J. Rodman. The programme comprised songs by Great Chief J. MacMillan, Savages J. Hinton and R. W. Stevenson: ’ Highland fling. Miss Iris Dobson; cornel solo. Savage J. Loped; cornet duet. Brave A. Nuttall and Savage Loper; hill-billy numbers, Brave E. McDiarmid and sons; violin solo. Savage P. McLachlan; song and dance. Miss D, Middlemass; trombone trio. Savages J. Jackman. W. Austin, and W, Naylor; piano accordion solos. Miss L. Appleby; Mexican serenade, Brave E.
