PROTECTION OF BIRD LIFE
MINISTER’S KEEN INTEREST (Per United Press Association) WHANGAREI. Oct. 16. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, paid an official visit to Whangarei last evening, and met representatives of the Harbour Board and Acclimatisation Society to discuss a proposal by the board that the harbour area be declared a bird sanctuary. The Acclimatisation Society urged the closing of ihe area for a period. The Minister to-day made a launch tour to get first-hand information. He emphasised the need of measures to preserve bird life, and expressed his willingness to create a department of wild life to achieve this object. Mr Parry will leave Whangarei for Kaitaia to-morrow to open the Centennial memorial.
