The October meeting of the Livingstone branch, presided over by Mrs Barnes, opened with the roll call, “ What would I do with £500?” A competition arranged by Mrs Curtis was won by Mrs J. J. Cook. The awards for the bloom were: Mrs W. Barnes 1, Mrs F. Clark 2. Mrs R. C. Cook 3. An interesting talk on growing bulbs in fibre was given by Mrs R. C Cook
The Beaumont branch held its monthly meeting on Wednesday last, when the roll call was “An amusing travelling experience.” Mrs Beccard had arranged an original competition, and the president. Mrs Dwyer, showed members how to use a fretwork saw in making small useful articles. Mr E. Knight, of L&wrence, had lent a fine exhibit of fretwork, showing what could be done in the art. It consisted of a weather house in a Maori house design, a bookcase with lions rampant, a letter-rack with antlered deer, a beautifully made model of the Coronation chair, and other interesting articles.
The monthly meeting of the Otakou branch was held on Thursday last at the residence of Mrs Karetai, Mrs H. Harwood presiding. One new member was enrolled. The sum of £5 was granted towards the “ Fighter Plane Fund." The roll call was “A beauty hint.” The competitions resulted:—An article made from a motor car tube— Miss L. Harwood 1, Mrs L. Burns and Mrs Lewis (equal) 2, Mrs H. Harwood and Miss M. Harwood (equal) 4; darn —Miss B. Harwood 1, Mrs T. Harwood 2. Mrs Greary 3. The hostesses were Misses A. Watson and B. Harwood.
