QUEEN CARNIVAL BALL

SPONSORED BY R.N.Z.A.F. AIR FORCE QUEEN ATTENDS The personnel of the Rojal New Zealand Air Force station at Taieri are to be congratulated on the success of the ball held last night in the Town Hall in ait. of the Air Force Queen s funds. They must have viewed with satisfaction the large attendance, and no doubt they will find that, from a monetary point of view, their effort was well worth while. The atmosphere of the ball was one of gaiety, and the frocking was in keeping with one or the chief functions of the season. Air Force blue was, of course, the predominant colour, and a large percentage of the male dancers were men from the station. • ■■ - The decorations were not on a lavish scale, but were adequate. The entire area covered by the organ pipes was hidden by lattice-work, interlaced with greenery, dotted nere and there with pink and scarlet flowers. Spaced in a single line alon? the front of the staga were vases filled with fluffy pink blossom. Above the stage was the R.N.Z.A.F. flag with a crown beneath It. „ Just after 9.30 the Air Force Queen (Miss Mary Pratt), escorted by Squadron-leader Stedman. entered the hall. Her retinue of attendant countesses each wore a sparkling coronet and an air force blue sash which was affixed to the shoulder by an Air Force Queen badge. Their escorts, were officers of the R.N.Z.A.F. Miss Pratt wore a model gown of heavy grape-coloured georgette and a shoulder spray of shaded velvet flowers in pink and Special guests were the Mayor and Mayoress, Mrs Allen wearing a nasturtium red gown, with beading and graceful cape sleeves. Also . among the dancers was the Army Queen <Miss Airini Grennell); who wore jgold figured satin beneath a blsck velvet cloak. / Interludes included ballets by the pupils of Miss Constance Potts, - and exhibition dancing by Mr J. Hall Green and partner. One of the most diverting ballets seen in Dunedin; for some years was a lively ta;> number danced by 12 girls dressed to represent aeroplanes. Their costumes had been ingeniously devised, wings and tailpieces being attached to their "brevities" of gold crepe, and propellers to their matching brassieres. Crests on their heads' glittered with the initials "R.A.F." :- Members of the Air Force Queen Committee and their wives who were present included Mr and. Mrs A. C.
