ZONING OF MILK
RESENTMENT IN ASHBURTON SYSTEM BREAKS DOWN (Pee United Press Association) ASHBURTON, Oct. 4. When hundreds of consumers refused to lake delivery of their milk under the zoning scheme which started on Tuesday morning the milkmen met and decided to return to their old rounds the next day. The public resented being compulsorily zoned, and the milkmen were turned away when they approached the homes of new customers. The rejection by the public of the scheme was notified to Wellington and an officer of the Department of Health came to Ashburton on Wednesday and met the milkmen. He was plainly told that the Dlan was all right on paper, but unworkable in bractice. and that the public resented being dictated to. The officer is to make a report to the Government. A public meeting last evening decided to send telegrams to the Government stating the town's disapproval of the system. The meeting also protested against the proposed shops and offices hours legislation.
