Apparently inspired by the example set by the Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own), at present encamped on the racecourse, the small flock of ducks on the ornamental lake have taken to drilling. On a recent afternoon onlookers were considerably diverted by the sight of the drake leading four ducks in Indian file across the lawn in front of the main stand. The drake had taken up his position beside the hading member of the file, much as a sergeant does in leading his men to relieve guards on duty.
