Mrs Ross presided at the monthly meeting of the Hampden branch. The roll call was “A Pudding Recipe.” It was decided to hold a bring-and-buy sale in aid of the patriotic funds. Mrs Murray and Miss Mason were the hostesses.

Mrs Coster presided over the September meeting of the Hyde branch, which was held at the home of Mrs J. Ramsay on Friday last. The roll call was “A sewing hint." A competition “Article for the Lady Galway Guild,” was won by Mrs J. Milne. An interesting demonstration on the making of aprons was given by Mrs Milne. Members unanimously decided to contribute towards the fund for buying an aeroplane, to be presented to Britain as a gift from the W.D.F.U. It was also decided to send Christmas gifts to the lepers at Makogai. During the month produce was sent to the Services Welcome Club.

. The September meeting of the Glenorchy branch was held on Friday last, when Mrs J. A. Reid, sen., presided. It was decided to give the usual annual donation of £1 to the leper fund. A sale of mystery parcels organised by the branch in aid of patriotic funds realised the sum of £ll 4s. Mrs D. Scott was the winner of the " Ask-it-Basket’ competition, the prize being given by Mrs J. A. Reid. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs S. C. Knowles

The Momona branch held its monthly meeting on Thursday last, Mrs Costella presiding. The roll call was, “A kitchen hint.” A competition—Vase of spring flowers—resulted:—Mrs Ford 1, Miss A, Baird 2. The hostesses were Mrs Morrison and Misses Nichol and Millar.

Mrs Direen presided at the monthly meeting of the Otekaieke branch held on September 18. One new member was welcomed. It was decided to support both the Aeroplane Fund and gala day which is to be held at Oamaru on October 5. A competition—bloom—resulted:—Mrs Adams 1. Mrs Peevers 2, Mrs Williams 3. The hostesses were Mrs Wright and Mrs Williams.

Seating accommodation in the Tamai Tamariki Historic Hall, Otakou, was fully occupied on the occasion of the Otakou branch’s tenth birthday party, which took the form, of a concert and a dance. Mrs H. Harwood (president) extended a hearty welcome to all, and especially to the visitors, some of whom had come from as far afield as Clyde. Mrs Karetai (group leader) presided over the concert part of the programme, which was opened with songs and choruses by the W.D.F.U. members. One of the numbers was written by a member. Other items were given by Miss Ellison, Maori girls (poi dance and song), Mrs Fry (recitation). Mrs H. Harwood and Miss Kaahu (duet). Miss J. Watson and the Misses J. and N. .Douglass (trio), Maori Girls and Boys (action song), and Messrs Tunnage and Wheeler (instrumental duet). A play, “Tea and Scandal,” was given by the follow-

ing players:—Mesdames H. Harwood, Smythe, Geary, Lewis and Douglass, Misses Russell and L. and B. Harwood, and Mr G. Sim.

The birthday cake was then brought in, and Mrs Annan (provincial president), after giving a resume of the division work, lit the candles, and Mrs Wilson (Macandrew Bay), representing the Women’s Institute, blew them out. Mrs Wilson (Farmers Union, Portobello) inserted the knife, and Mrs Karetai (W.D.F.U. group leader) cut the cake. Birthday greetings were extended by Mrs Skinner (Dunedin), Mrs MacTaggart (Womens Institute, Broad Bay), Mrs Ballantyne (Portobello), Mrs Mac Kay (Papanui). and Tomahawk. « V »

Mrs Durwooq presided at the September meeting of the Oamaru branch, and reported on the provincial executive meeting and Mrs Elliot s visit. She also stressed the need for members to support the W.D.F.U Rest Room, which, situated at Palmerston North was a wonderful asset to the union. A collection was taken for the Fighter Plane Fund. A competition for a thrift article was won by Mrs Corlett, who also won second place. The hostesses were Mesdames Henderson Brown, and Lee. # * *

Mrs Simpson presided at the monthly meeting of the Kia Ora branch. The motto was " Confidence, once betrayed_ the charm is broken,” and the roll call “An old-fashioned beauty treatment.” An interesting demonstration on the making of milk iug covers was given by Mrs Kirton. The competitions resulted: —Sponge roll, Miss J. Searle 1, Mrs Morrison 2; bloom—Mrs Third and Miss M. Taylor (equal) 1, Mrs Morrison and Miss J. Searle (equal) 3. The hostesses were Mesdames McClea and Searle.
