WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE AUXILIARY
The first meeting of the committee of the Women's War Service Auxiliary was held on Monday last at the residence of Mrs Mackie Begg. It was attended by Professor Strong, Mesdames Black, Ewing, Herbert, and Tannock, Misses Tomlinson and Wood, Adjutant Tyrer (proxy for Mrs Major Bridges)—these being the members elected by ballot, each representative of a society of women, and Mesdames Connelly, Grass, and Mackie Begg, who had been appointed by the Government to act on its behalf. Mrs Mackie Begg and Professor Strong were respectively elected to the positions of chairwoman and vice-chair-woman.
It was reported that registration cards would be to hand shortly, when a complete register of all women and girls ■ willing to assist in some form of war work would be compiled. Volunteers for the position of secretary to be in charge of the clerical work, filing, etc., are called for from suitable women willing to undertake this position as their contribution to war service. Mrs Mackie Begg, 1 Claremont street, would be glad to give further information. It was reported that a committee room had been arranged for in the New Zealand Express Buildings, where future meetings would be held. It was decided that the next meeting be held on Monday evening next.
