ROWING
OTAGO ASSOCIATION ; ANNUAL MEETING The forty-seventh annual meeting of the Otago Rowing Association was held last night. Mr F. Brough occupied the chair. Annual Report Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the chairman said that the regattas during the year had been well patronised, especially that held by the Dunedin Regatta Club at Waihola, which received such encouraging support that it was to be hoped the fixture would be a feature of the club’s future activities. Unfortunatelv. while on the way to Wellington. the boat of the Otago interprovincial eight was damaged, and the association now found itself in the unenviable position of being unable to provide a boat unless sufficient funds were forthcoming between now and the date of the next interprovincial fixture with which to purchase one. By the fitting of a new centre portion, however, it might be possible to make the boat seaworthy again. The various clubs were to be congratulated on their successes during the year, but it was regrettable that it had been found necessary to abandon the Oamaru Regatta for the season. This fixture had. in past years, been a particularly valuable try-out for crews newly banded together. and it was to be hoped that in the coming seasons it would receive every sunpori from Dunedin and Port Chalmers clubs. The balance sheet disclosed that while the finances of the association were not particularly strong, it was found possible to close the year with a small credit balance. With so rnanv calls on the public purse, it was probable that difficulty might be encountered in augmenting the funds to any great extent, and it therefore devolved on the centre to husband its resources until times improved. The motion was seconded by Mr T. F. Mackie, who complimented (be association on the satisfactory state of its finances, and urged the necessity for keeping the sport alive during the war period. The report was adooted. Office-bearers The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr F. Brough: immediate past-president. Mr T. F. Mackie; vice-president, Mr J. Turnbull; secretary and treasurer. Mr E. Wilson; honorary auditors Messrs James Brown and Co.: Emergency Committee—the president, secretary, Mr W. J. Wilson. Mr J. Turnbull, and Mr T. F. Mackie. General It was decided to send forward the name of Mr T. F. Mackie as the association's nominee for the office of president of the New' Zealand Association.
