UNION STREET SCHOOL

MEETING OF EX-PUPILS The annual meeting of the Union Street School Ex-pupils’ Association was held in the Somerset Lounge last night. Mr W. Rutherford presided over a large attendance of members. The adoption of the annual report was moved by the president, who said that the association had suffered the loss of several of its members during the year. The death had occurred of Miss Grace Thomson, Mrs P, Gray, Mrs Routledgc, Messrs W, Smith, G Finlayson, G Campbell, J. D. Thomson and J Fleming The association extended its congratulations to Mr and Mrs McPherson, who had celebrated their golden wedding during the year. The president referred to the valuable services rendered to the association by the present headmaster of the school (Mr Miller) and his staff, who were to be thanked for the work they were carrying on in the old school, He also said that the association's best wishes went with all members who had gone overseas with the fighting forces Election of Officers The following office-bearers were elected tor the ensuing vear:—President, Mr W Rutherford; vice-presidents—Miss Cable. Messrs J. R. D iness. J H Millis and W J Strong; secretary, Mr F Hay, treasurer Mr J. H. Oliver: auditor. Mr W J Trounson; committee- -Mrs Duthie Miss Allan Miss Wright, Mesdames McPherson. Squire and Lawson, Messrs A. Allan. Mclndoe. J McK Miller and P Ireland Musical Programme At the conclusion of the business meeting an enjoyable musical programme, arranged by Madame Stella, was presented. The items were as follows;—Miss Julia Holmes, violin solo, " Polonaise Miss Ivy Cranston, song, ' Merry Month of May ; Miss June Holmes, song. " Dream o’ Day Jill Mr Donald Ross song, . Let Me Like a Soldier Fall Misses 1. Cranston and D Green duet, ’ I Love You Truly Miss Anna Briasco violin solo. ” Waltz Bohemienne ’’; Mrs Harold Varney song, ’ Waiata Pol ’’, Miss June Holmes, whistling novelty. Butterflies in me Rain Miss Dorothy Green, song, Ye Banks and Braes.” The pianoforte accompaniments were played by Madame Stella and Miss June Holmes
