M HOBO " BALL TO-NIGHT MYSTERY BAG DAY ON FRIDAY UGLY MAN COMPETITION The principal quaen carnival attraction to-night will be the " hobo " ball, which" will be attended by Queen Airini. Admission tickets will be available, at the doors Highly popular should be the mystery bag dav on Friday when tickets entitling purchaser? to prizes will be sold on the streets. Attractions of this kind have aroused much interest in the past artd a generous response is anticipated. Some valuable prizes have been given. The prizes will be on view in the Armv Queen shop window next to*the City Hotel. A novel .contest is being conducted by the Navy Queen Committee in the form of an ugly man competition, for which nominations are now being sought. The nomination fee is ss. A great deal of fun. as well as considerable profit to the cause, should result from this competition, in which anyone may enter his neighbour, his best friend, br his worst friend. Carnival Night
All interested in furthering the arrangements for the Carnival Night. , which is set down for Friday. October 11, are invited to attend a special meeting, in the Chamber of Commerce rooms to-morrow evening at 7 o'clock. Representatives of business firms industrial secretaries and member? oft the public not already associated with the queen carnival activities are asked to be present. • Judging by the disorder on the stage at the navy community sing at the St. James Theatre yesterday, the cooking contest conducted could-be described as a case'of "too many cooks 1 spoil the cooking;" The navy "cooks,*" Messrs H. S. Harford and Arthur Mac*.Donald were the winners. The- army was represented by "Cooks" G W' Lane and R. Wilson-Brown, and "Spud" Murphy and B. McConnell ably represented 4ZB.
