MINERS CEASE WORK
DEATH OF A WORKMATE SERIOUS LOSS IN PRODUCTION (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 10. The death of a miner, injured in an accident at the Renown colliery last week, caused a .stoppage of work there on Monday and yesterday, and also at the Taupiri, Pukemiro, Glen Afton, and Walton mines yesterday. . About 10UU men were affected, and it is stated that the loss in production was approximately 3000 tons. It is part of the agreement between the miners and the companies that such action may be taken in such circumstances. There is no dispute, ana> all the mines are working to-day. "We can understand the men sympathising deeply with the relatives of their late workmate," said a mining executive to-day, " but these stoppages are becoming a serious matter in a time of national emergency."
