CHATHAM ISLANDS
STEAMER COMMUNICATION MAINTENANCE OF SERVICE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. “A scheme to ensure a continuance of steamer communication between the Chatham Islands and Lyttelton will be completed next week,” said the Minister of Marine, Dr D. G. McMillan, in reply to a question to-day. The Westland Shipping Company, which owns the Tees, the vessel used on this run for many years, has gone into liquidation. The Tees is tied up, as is usual during the winter. “ The Government realises that the service to the Chathams must be kept going.” Dr McMillan said, “and it is investigating proposals that will ensure its continuance. I hope to have the arrangements completed next week.”
