£SOO ST. JOHN CENTENNIAL BABY CONTEST.—The Centennial baby contest in the St. John Ambulance drive for funds will enter the semi-final stage when the district contest commences at the St. James Theatre next Friday. The six prize-winners of the Dunedin contest will compete with the six leading babies from Ashburton, Timaru, Waimate, Oamaru, Gore and Invercargill for the district prize (goods to the value of £SO contributed Dy Mr Arthur Barnett). This contest will extend over a period of two weeks, and all 42 babies will be screened at each session. The voting will be the same as in the previous contest, in that every sixpence spent in admission money will constitute one vote. The six local competitors have been renumbered as follows:—Baby Johnstone (No. 29), Baby Gwynne (No. 2), Baby Frost (No. 6), Baby Cockburn (No. 20).
