REVOLUTIONISED IN QUEENSLAND CAMPS BASED ON NUTRITIONAL PRINCIPLES Based on modern nutritional principles. the diet prepared for soldiers in training in Queensland has proved, to be a pronounced success, according to advice received by Dr G. B. Chapman, Auckland. He said that an almost identical system had been recommended by the Nutritional Council inNew Zealand, but it had not been adopted by the army authorities. Dr Chapman quoted a Brisbane report in which it was stated that the three-month camps for militiamen which were just finishing in Queensland had seen the whole organisation of food supply, preparation and serving revolutionised. The food value of the old ration had been carefully analysed. and alterations and additions had been made where necessary to ensure that soldiers were provided with a balanced diet adequate in every nutritional factor. It was interesting to know that the men appreciated diet, for it was feared that it would be disliked hv soldiers. That had resulted in similar proposals being discarded in New Zealand. , , , After stating that. there had been no change in diet in New Zealand camps, Dr Chapman referred to a statement by Dr Burnett, an Australian authority, on virus diseases, in which influenza is included. Dr Burnett emphasised that proper nutrition was the most important factor in the prevention of illnesses of this type.
