KINEMA ENTERTAINMENTS

MAJESTIC THEATRE

Well out of the ordinary run as a picture and of particular interest in that it displays yet another aspect of Charles Laughton’s many-sided genius is “ The Beachcomber,” which will be shown again to-night and on Tuesday. Probably the screen’s foremost character actor, Laughton has an entirely novel part in this film as a ragged, lazy, good-for-nothing remittance man who inhabits a lovely South Sea Island along with one or two other men and a large company of beautiful girls His adventures with a missionary, played by Elsa Lanchester, who is at pains to reform him, form the basis of the picture, which is a delight from start to finish. Whether the film would be so successful with less distinguished actors in the leading parts it is difficult to say. Laughton, Miss Lanchester (who is his wife), Tyrone Guthrie, and Robert Newton fit their parts so perfectly and fill the whole film with such obstreperous comic gusto that no one else seems possible.

OPERA HOUSE

Jackie Cooper, who scored such worldwide success in “ Boy of the Streets,” gives an even greater performance in Monogram’s " Gangster’s Boy,” which conies to the' Opera House to-night and Wednesday night. A stirring, dramatic story of the high school generation. “ Gangster's Boy ” is a vehicle perfectly suited to Cooper’s extraordinary talents, and gives him opportunities he has never had before.

“Feather Your Nest”

The legion of followers of George Formby will be jubilant when they hear that George will be seen at the Opera House to-night and on Wednesday night in one of his earliest successes, ” Feather Your Nest.” In this side-splitting comedy, George is in one of his funniest moods. No picures will be shown tomorrow night.

A light northerly wind blew down the range at 300 yards, and at 500 yards a light rain fell, with poor visibility for most part of the shoot. G.
