OBITUARY
SIR JOHN GILMOUR LONDON, Mar. 30. (Received Mar. 31, at 11 p.m.) The death occurred suddenly of Sir John Gilmour, Minister of Shipping, at his London residence. Sir John Gilmour, who represented the Pollock Division of Glasgow, since 1918, was Secretary of State for Scotland, 1926-29, Minister of Agriculture
MR PARKER McKINLAY The death occurred suddenly at Balclutha on Saturday of Mr Parker McKinlay, who was well known in educational circles in Otago for many years. Formerly a teacher at various schools in the province, he later joined the firm of Messrs P. McSkimming and Son, being head accountant for a considerable period. Me McKinlay was born in Stirling and received his early education there. When he left school he attended the Dunedin Training College and later the Otago University, where he received his M.A. degree. He taught at several schools, including Oamaru and Milton before joining the firm of Messrs P. McSkimming and Son, He twice visited Great Britain for the purpose of investigating pottery development Mr Parker was for many years a member of the Otago Education Board, being the board’s representative on the University Council for some time. He was also a former member of the South Otago High School Board. About 25 years ago he stood for Parliament for the Bruce electorate against Sir James Allen, but was defeated. He is survived by his wife and family. MRS I. D. ST. JOHN <Peb United Press Association) NELSON, Mar. 30. The death has occurred of Mrs Ivy Doris St. John, who this month won the New Zealand gold and silver mallet croquet competition.
