PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY

IMPORTANCE OF SUGGESTION The subject under discussion at the Practical Psychology Club last Thursday evening was “ Demonstrating Through Suggestions." It was stated .that the force of suggestion operated with animals as well as with human beings, and in such a way that the question arose as to whether it was the body or the brain that reacted. Auto-suggestion was a mental suggestion made by oneself to oneself. By expressing that suggestion in words one imparted to it a dynamic force, whereas the latent thought was static. Positive suggestions intelligently applied made a mental path, or established a habit line of action in the great storehouse of the sub-conscious. Every person had reached his present stage of attainment by what he had said to himself about himself. It was not wise to admit weakness to oneself. Rather, one’s mind should be treated as if capable of great things, as the sub-conscious mind built, repaired, and sustained the body according to the imprint made upon it by the mentality Although will power was necessary to the carrying out of ideas implanted in the mind, yet the will had no part in the Implanting of an idea because, in exercising the will, related ideas were likely to be awakened, thereby hindering the effective establishing: of the required thought or idea in the mind.
